IVF is the most common form of Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ART), and is the treatment of choice for a woman with blocked, severely damaged fallopian tube. The entire process of fertilization takes place outside a woman’s body. During the IVF process, women’s eggs are removed from the ovaries & fertilized with husband’s sperms in the laboratory. The fertilized egg (embryo) is later placed in the woman’s womb.
IVF was originally developed for women with blocked tubes and it is still the procedure of choice for this situations. It is also used when other conditions are present, including endometriosis, male factor infertility and unexplained infertility in which no medical cause for infertility can be found. Our physicians will review your history and help to guide you to diagnostic procedures and the treatment that are most appropriate for you.
Most treatment cycles will require about 8-10 visits to the clinic for blood work and ultrasound starting on day 2 of your cycle. This may be every day, every other day or as requested by your physician.
The pregnancy test is done 14 days following your embryo transfer or insemination. Some patients may choose to take this time off from work, especially if they’ve had an embryo transfer.
We recommend minimizing stress and keeping a positive outlook during this time.

If the pregnancy test is still negative 15 to 17 days post-transfer, however, your doctor will ask you to stop taking the progesterone, and you’ll wait for your period to start. The next step will be decided among you, your partner and your doctor. Having a treatment cycle fail is never easy. It’s heartbreaking. It’s important; however, to keep in mind that having one cycle fail doesn’t mean you won’t be successful if you try again. You will have to discuss with your doctor what will be the best option.
Fertility treatments can increase the likelihood of getting pregnant. Treatments can include lifestyle changes, supplements, surgery. Medication, or assisted reproduction. There are several treatments under assisted reproduction such as IVF (In Vitro Fertilization). IUI (Infra Uterine Insemination), ICSI (Intracystoplasmic Sperm Injection), Oocyte donation, Embryo donation and etc. All these procedures involve harvesting a number of eggs in the hope of fertilizing at least one egg.
Oocyte donation is the only lifeline for women whose ovarian reserve is exhausted and also for those with premature ovarian failure. Women of post-menopausal age wishing to have a child from their husband, are also benefitted from this procedure. The beauty of this procedure is that the baby grows in their womb and from their own husband’s sperms!
Women who are unable to produce healthy eggs. But have a healthy uterus are candidates for Donor Egg IVF. This procedure is the same as that of Self IVF except that the intended parents opt for a oocyte and use husbands sperms oocyte to create the embryo oocyte.
IUI has become first line management in infertility. It is simple technique that involves deposition of washed semen sample in to woman’s uterus around time of ovulation. The rationale is to increase the density of both eggs and sperms near site of fertilization. This increases the likelihood of pregnancy.
The IUI procedure works by concentrating the healthiest sperm of husbands ejaculate around ovulation and placing the “washed” sperm into the uterus adjacent to the fallopian tube & thus increases chances of pregnancy.
Higher success rates are achieved with sperm counts is more than 15 million/ml.
Ideally an IUI should be performed within 6 hours either side of ovulation.
This method of treating predominantly male-factor infertility had been a breakthrough, and it has established itself as the preferred treatment of choice for men with weak sperms that cannot travel themselves into the egg.
Gestational Carrier (surrogate)When a woman who accepts to rent her womb to carry the child of another woman who is incapable of becoming pregnant using her own uterus it is called a gestational carrier. Women who need gestational carriers with IVF include those who do not have a uterus. Have an abnormal uterine cavity, have had several recurrent miscarriages or have had recurrent, failed IVF cycles. “Gestational Carrier” is also known as Surrogate Mother for Intended Parents.
