Endoscopic specialties
Gastroenterology specialists at Sahyadri Hospital have been recognized internationally for their experience and expertise in treating patients with digestive disorders. Our work division provides several endoscopic procedure options to the patients, which are mentioned below:
- Diagnostic Therapeutic Upper Gastrointestinal endoscopy
Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy includes diagnosis and therapeutic measures of a wide range of upper gastrointestinal tracts. These upper GI tracts include organs like the oesophagus, stomach, and small intestine. However, the doctor must have mastered various cognitive and technical aspects to perform such a high-quality examination. Our doctors base all the therapeutic interventions for the disorders on the technical components.
During the process, the doctor passes the instrument through the patient’s mouth and throat, entering the oesophagus. The doctors carefully examine all the areas of the oesophagus before moving into the stomach and the upper part of the small intestine. This helps the gastroenterologist detect the reason for stomach pain, digestive tract bleeding, or any signs of an ulcer.
- Diagnostic and therapeutic lower gastrointestinal endoscopy colonoscopy
A colonoscopy is a process to find any signs of change or abnormalities in the rectum or large intestine. You may also need to go through the process in conditions of pregnancy, heart problems, lung issues, allergies, and diabetes.
Our highly trained doctors insert a long, thin tube into your body to examine the internal tissue or organ from close. Once you are sedated, the doctor will push the colonoscope into your anus, which passes through the rectum into your colon. The camera records everything and shows the images on the monitor so the doctors can check for abnormalities. Moreover, once the colonoscope has reached its position, the professionals inflate the colon using carbon dioxide to better view the internal organs. The whole process takes a time of 15 to 60 minutes.
- Diagnostic and Therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound
It is a minimally invasive procedure that allows the gastroenterologist to take images and extract information about the patient’s digestive tract. It also helps the doctor get a close view of the surrounding tissues and organs of the tract. The doctors insert a small, flexible, light tube into the patient’s lower digestive tract. The camera attached to the instrument takes the pictures, which are then shown on a colour monitor to get more accurate and detailed information about the body.
It helps for many reasons, like:
- To evaluate the cancer stage,
- Study abnormalities in the liver and gallbladder,
- Determine the cause of faecal incontinence,
- Evaluate chronic pancreas disorder and study nodules.
- Advance therapeutic ERCP
Advanced therapeutic ERCP is a type of study of the duct that leads to the drainage of the pancreas and liver. Ducts are from where the pancreas and liver drain. The drainage duct of the pancreas is known as a pancreatic duct. On the other hand, the drainage duct of the liver is known as a biliary duct. When these join together, it drains everything into the upper bowel part of the stomach. The opening from where they drain is known as papilla. Once drained, it becomes straightforward for the doctors to perform tests and look into the gastrointestinal areas of the intestines and stomach. It also helps to look into organs like the pancreas, liver, and gall bladder.
Well-versed doctors mainly carry it out to look for many conditions, such as stent placement, sphincterotomy, stone removal, balloon dilation, and tissue sampling. It also helps the doctors look for any scars, cancer, or leaks due to trauma or surgery.
- Diagnostic and Therapeutic single balloon enteroscopy
Enteroscopy is a process that our highly experienced doctors undertake to diagnose and treat the digestive system. In the process, the doctors insert a flexible, thin tube with an attached camera into the body, also known as an endoscope. Moreover, one balloon is attached to it, inflating when the doctors want a close view of the stomach, oesophagus, and small intestine. The professional may also use scissors or forceps to extract a tissue sample for biopsy.
Our professionals carry it out to look for a tumour in the small intestine, the reason for abnormal bleeding in the gastrointestinal area, and to count the number of WBCs.
- Endoscopic treatment for obesity
We also offer our patients the option of endoscopic treatment for obesity. As the number of cases of problems relating to obesity is increasing, it is essential to help people by offering an uncomplicated, safe, and non-surgical process of reducing weight. Endoscopic treatment gives patients the advantage of easy and fast recovery with no signs of a scar.
In the process, the doctors use a thin, flexible tube and push it down through the mouth into the stomach. The instrument is followed by another instrument that can help make stitches and take pictures through a tiny camera.
