What is Obesity?

Obesity is a disease characterized by excessive body fat. The terms “overweight” or “Obese” refer to the person’s overall body weight. When a person exceeds his normal BMI (Body Mass Index) he / she is said to be overweight. In medical terms - To be Obese is to have a higher amount of extra body fat in comparison to your muscles, bones and other body fluids. The easiest and the most useful ways to measure body fat are to check your BMI and your waist circumference.

People who are medically obese usually are affected by behavior, genetic and environmental factors that are difficult to control with dieting. Obesity increases the likelihood of certain diseases and other related health problems.

The most prevalent obesity-related diseases include:

  • High cholesterol
