In a country like India, the prevalence of diabetes among adults in urban areas is as high as 12 to 14 percent. Considering the population of India, the numbers are huge and increasing at a tremendous rate.

The fact that most of people do not experience any symptoms and present only after complications is worrying and therefore it is importance to diagnose and treat it early

 Is diabetes in India different from western countries?

Diabetes in India starts at a relatively young age almost a decade earlier in people than in Western countries. Early onset of diabetes increases the risk of complications associated with it.

The other thing is presence of central obesity amongst many Indians, also increasing liver related diseases due to accumulation of fat ( NASH ) . There are not much visible primary indicators as it silently affects us and many of us wake up only after complications . That is why diabetes awareness is important.

What are the different types of diabetes?

Type 1, Type 2 , Gestational and Secondary Diabetes .Type 2 diabetes is more prevalent in India, especially in adults above the age of 40.
