Most commonly occurring endocrine diseases

There are several endocrine diseases that we treat here at Sahyadri Hospitals. Check out some of them listed here.

  • Diabetes

Diabetes is a medical condition in which the human body is unable to produce insulin or use it effectively. It results in a high level of sugar in the blood. There are various types of diabetes like Type 1, Type 2, etc. Some common symptoms are blurry vision, weight loss, fatigue, excessive thirst, etc.

  • Addison’s disease

Also known as primary adrenal insufficiency, Addison’s disease occurs when there is a deficiency of the cortisol hormone. Moreover, patients suffering from Addison’s disease also have low levels of aldosterone hormone. Some of the symptoms include weight loss, weakness, depression, etc.

  • Growth Hormone Deficiency

Lack of Somatotropin, commonly known as the growth hormone, results in the development of growth hormone deficiency. The results are medical conditions known as pituitary dwarfism and dwarfism. Here, the symptoms are – cardiovascular problems, anxiety, dry skin, baldness in males, etc.

  • Hyperthyroidism

The over secretion of the thyroid from the thyroid gland results in an abnormal functioning known as hyperthyroidism. It controls metabolism, body temperature, heart rate, etc. The symptoms include tremors in the hand, difficulty in sleeping, anxiety, etc.

  • Cushing’s syndrome

The excessive production of the hormone cortisol leads to the development of Cushing’s syndrome. It can either be due to overproduction in the body or due to corticosteroid medications. Some common signs are – acne, weight gain, fragile skin, purple marks, etc.

  • Acromegaly

Excess secretion of the Growth Hormone (GH) leads to the development of acromegaly. The most common symptoms include expansion of facial features, minute outgrowths in the skin, excessive sweating, etc. It is vital to note that these symptoms develop quite slowly. Thus, they remain hidden for a long time.

  • Goiter

The expansion of the thyroid gland causes the endocrine disorder, goiter. There are two types of goiter – vernacular goiter and diffuse goiter. The symptoms are difficulty in breathing, fatigue, weight loss, xerodermia, modification in voice, etc.

Types of Diabetes

At Sahyadri Hospitals, we treat various types of diabetes with the aid of expert Diabetologists in Pune and other consultants. Check out some of them complied here.

  • Juvenile Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes that occurs in children is actually an autoimmune disorder. It was formerly termed as juvenile diabetes as most of the patients were young kids. In this type of diabetes, the pancreas makes no or very little insulin. Though the exact cause is still unknown, it is discovered in most cases that the immune system of the body attacks the islet cells.

The symptoms of juvenile diabetes are –

  1. Extreme hunger
  2. Fatigue
  3. Excessive urination
  4. Possibility of wetting the bed
  5. Weight loss unexpectedly
  6. Changes in behavior

Moreover, there are various risk factors that can further trigger the development of this medical condition. Family history, exposure to different viruses, genes, etc., play a vital role.

It is vital to remember that type 1 diabetes has the ability to affect the functioning of some of the significant organs in the body. For instance, it can increase the chances of attaining high blood pressure, stroke, nerve damage, etc.

At present, there is no specific cure for Juvenile diabetes. However, through preventive care and comprehensive diabetes management, it is possible to keep it under control.

Sahyadri Hospitals offer optimized sugar care for Juvenile diabetes patients. Moreover, we also provide extensive education on the subject to spread awareness.

  • Adult Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes was previously termed as “adult-onset diabetes” because it was prevalent among adults. However, nowadays, it can also be seen in children.

In this type of diabetes, excessive levels of sugar remain the bloodstream. It ultimately leads to issues with the nervous, immune, and circulatory systems.

Here, there are two particular problems that are at work. Firstly, the pancreas fails to produce the required insulation, and secondly, the cells in the body take less sugar.

There are some common signs of type 2 diabetes such as fatigue, excessive thirst, blurry vision, weight loss unintentionally, etc.

There are numerous risk factors that can increase the chance of Type 2 diabetes. These are –

  1. Obesity
  2. Age
  3. Family history
  4. Low levels of HDL cholesterol
  5. Race

Some frequent comorbidities associated with Type 2 diabetes include damage to nerves, increase in blood pressure, skin problems, kidney diseases, poor healing ability, etc.

Currently, there is no cure available for Adult diabetes. However, change in lifestyle, healthy eating, and exercising can help in diabetes management. Moreover, the healthcare professionals can also suggest insulin therapy, medications, etc.

At Sahyadri Hospitals, we provide the best diabetes treatment in Pune, offering patients the utmost care and comprehensive treatment packages. Our expert team of consulting consultants and diabetologists ensures world-class care.
